With the 2.0 codebase getting pretty stable, I am starting to turn my attention to expanding support for Growl for Windows to more applications. I created the initial set of plugins (iTunes, Outlook, Visual Studio) because they were applications i used frequently and they had fairly easy to implement plug-in architectures. But now I would really like to grow the list of applications that support GFW, so I am asking for your input.
Post the applications that you would most like to see support GFW in the comments below and I will focus on those apps. If the apps dont have a plugin architecture, I will try to work with the app developers to build support in natively. (Two Twitter clients, Witty and Spaz, have already had patches submitted to them to add support natively). The apps with the most votes will get priority.
Finally, if you are a developer of an app that supports GFW/GNTP or have created a plug-in for another app to add GFW/GNTP support, post up a link and I will add it to the list of supported applications.
**UPDATE 5**:Winamp Plug-in now available:
**UPDATE 4**:Thanks to @aegnor, there is now Pidgin support.
**UPDATE 3**:Thanks to Vaelek, there is now µTorrent support. check it out at:
**UPDATE 2**: The following plugins have been released - more to come soon:
**UPDATE**: As of right now (May 6th, 2009), here are the most requested apps:

- Thunderbird - Now Available

Also, if is posible, hardware related advices and alerts:
Battery Power Getting low
New USB Device plugged (like Growl 4 Mac)
Master Volume changed
etc
FreeRapid Downloader (Rapidshare/Megaupload/etc)
Free Download Manager (ftp/http)
skype
isn't Twhirl being superceded by Seesmic Desktop? if so and Twhirl is 'dying off', then i probably won't add support for it. if it is staying around as a separate app, then that is ok. does anybody know for sure?
for my
msn
firefox
google crome
since Firefox showed up a few times in the wishlist, i started with it. here is the first pass at a GFW Firefox extension:
http://www.growlforwindows.com/gfw/plugins/firefox
(Firefox might prompt you to allow the download since it is not coming from addons.mozilla.org yet)
i have tested it in Firefox 2 and 3, but i would appreciated everyone else trying it out and reporting any issues.
in this version, you can get notifications on these events:
Download Started
Download Completed
Download Failed
Download Cancelled
i havent added the ability to set a password yet, so if you are using the 'Require password for local applications' setting in GFW, you wont be able to receive any notifications yet.
anyway, if it looks good, i will make an official build and put it up on addons.mozilla.org for regular use. the method i used should make it pretty easy to create a Thunderbird plugin as well, so maybe i will work on that next. i also have a hardware/system monitor for things like battery life, disk space, event logs, etc that i started awhile back that i will probably try to wrap up and release.
woohoo! Nice one!

Please add Songbird support for GrowlForWindows.
There are some addons from Songbird that does almost the same, with Snarl, but they don't work anymore, and the Gnarly bridge doesn't work (the addon register itself, with a really weird name, and then no notification passes through it)
google reader for sure

RE: Songbird
The Gnarly bridge emulates Snarl, so if the existing addons dont work with Snarl, they wont work with Gnarly either.
however, since Songbird is built on Mozilla, it should be easy to create an extension based on the Firefox and Thunderbird extensions. in fact, i spent about an hour this afternoon and whipped one up - i will post the link here as soon as it is available on the addons.mozilla.org site.

No mention of any shells? (SecureCRT, Putty, or Cygwin)?
Seems like an oversight of epic size.
I'd also agree with the Winamp, Filezilla, Pidgin, and uTorrent items.
Symantec Antivirus (corporate or personal) would be delicious.
Growl for Mac! That way, notifications can be forwarded from Windows->Mac and vice versa.

for uTorrent, there is an API of sorts for the WebUI. there is a forum post detailing it here : http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=25661
I'd find MSN, and postbox particularly useful. It strikes me that an email-client agnostic reminder service would probably be pretty good.
last.fm would be useful

And another support for Digsby. I've requested them to support GfW already, but others should pitch in, its not hard to contact them.

Prowl
It's an iPhone app that synchs with Growl on the Mac.

Wow, that was quick. I'll update and test out push to my iPhone tomorrow. I'm on a jailbroken/unlocked 3G device on T-Mobile, btw, and my push works fine. For those of you with push issues in general, check out http://tankmorph.blogspot.com for instructions on getting push to work.

uTorrent and Pidgin are the main reason I would use Growl... too bad its not available. I'll be checking in periodically for this exciting project! Great work!

None of the third party clients support MPOP at the moment, so having push would be a game changer.

if you had some power reader for your house it could alert you when the load went down or up that would work.

Wireless network alarms
It would be nice to have CallerID displayed for my home phome line on my iPhone so I don't have to get up to find out some sales person is calling me. I could just look at my iPhone instead.
YAC (Yet another CallerID)
The website has API and source files to make it easy for programmers to tweak. So I don't think this would take long to get working with growl.
Thanks
Just thought of another idea.
How about home automation programs like:
mControl (embedded automation)
Homeseer
etc...
TweetDeck
FeedDemon (already posted a request on the FD 3.0 beta forum)
Windows Media Encoder
Quicken
Thunderbird Calendar
Google Calendar
FireFTP
Eset Antivirus
Nero Express
Norton Ghost

Audacity
TMPGEncoder

Disk Defragger (Windows Util)
More Windows integration (software installed/uninstalled, Windows updates available/installed, computer shut down/restarted/logged in or out, low system memory, high CPU usage, Remote Desktop user signed on/off)
SmarterMail Server by SmarterTools integration (new mail, message sent/sending error)
RealVNC - all versions (alert of user signing on/off)
FreeSSHd and FreeFTPd (user signed on/off)
Apache HTTP Server integration (new person on site)
I know this is a lot but it would really make Growl better, especially the tighter Windows system integration.
FileZilla - so I know when someone has connected to ftp and preferably uploaded or downloaded a file
google voice, google voice, google voice!
I have a uTorrent API that I have been working on in C# that talks to the web api of uTorrent. I hope to have a working version that at least supports notifications of files added/started/finished soon. I'll post back here when I have something to show.
@Vaekej - that would be awesome. i took a look at the WebUI API, but just havent had the time to dive in. if you get something working, please post it here or in the discussion forums - i am sure everyone will be excited.
First order of business, I can't type, but I am Vaelek not Vaekej.
Second and more importantly, good news! It's been a while but I looked over the current state of my wrapper, and I have enough functionality to knock out at least something here relatively quickly. Here's the thread I've started for it: http://groups.google.com/group/growl-for-windows/t/ea2a7b49e351eae0
Would very much like to see tweetdeck please

! Newsleecher (the most advanced application to download from USENET)
! FlashGet (the most advanced download manager)
I am surprised not to see them in the list.
snmp notifications would be awesome!! So I could get a notification if our core switch is lagging, or a network port is using too much bandwidth.
Google Voice, we need it bad
@everyone who wants Google Voice support -
here is a Greasemonkey script to add Google Voice support. i dont even have a Google Voice account though, so it is all theory. please try it out and post back your results.
